How Simulation Grade is Calculated (VB Essentials)

The grade that a student receives for their simulation is based on two factors, accuracy in answering the questions asked during the lesson and how close the student comes to the goal for that lesson.

For the questions there are 80 possible points available.  The total points that a student receives is based on the total number of questions answered correctly divided by the total number of tries to answer the questions.  A student that answers all of the questions correctly on the first attempt will receive the full 80 points.

The goal has a total of 20 possible points available.  The closer a student comes to reaching the goal, the more points they will receive.  Reaching the goal for a lesson will award the student the full 20 points available.

Let's look at an example:

Below we see that the student received a grade on the simulation of 87%

Hovering your mouse over the simulation grade will produce the following pop-up box:

In this example we can see that the student answered 5 questions correctly, but it took them 6 tries.  This resulted in a score of 83%, 5 Total Correct  / 6 Tries = 83%.  That score is then multiplied by the total points available to calculate how many points the student will receive.  In this case 83% x 80 possible points = 66.4, which is rounded up to the score shown of 67.

Additionally, we can also see that the student reached the goal for this lesson, since they received the full 20 points available.  

These two score are then added together to come up with the overall grade for the simulation:  67 + 20 = 87.

Note:  At any point during the simulation, students can click on the "Working on Goal" link at the bottom of the Steps box to see their score.
